The Irish Government took a case to the European Commission on Human Rights (Ireland v. United Kingdom) regarding the introduction of internment without trial and the treatment of Irish political prisoners of conscience in British Occupied Ireland. The European Commission stated that it "considered the combined use of the five methods to amount to torture, on the grounds that (1) the intensity of the stress caused by techniques creating sensory deprivation "directly affects the personality physically and mentally"; and (2) "the systematic application of the techniques for the purpose of inducing a person to give information shows a clear resemblance to those methods of systematic torture which have been known over the ages..a modern system of torture falling into the same category as those systems.applied in previous times as a means of obtaining information and confessions." read full story / add a comment

Is is justifiable to be a member of the catholic church with its history of child abuse cover up, anti women ideology, pro capitalist policies? All those who supported McQuaid and opposed the mother and child scheme have to condemned. They slunk away before the catholic church with their tails between their legs. They "proved" that Paisley and his ilk were correct that the South was a catholic state. they have blood on their hands. read full story / add a comment

A Chara, Our 'leaders' are trying to wave through a terrifying Merkel/Sarkozy plan that would abolish our right to choose sane economic policies and that would permanently ban vital public spending - all to appease big banks. But we live in a democracy and we should have the right to vote on any permanent changes to how Europe operates, and together, we can stop our leaders trashing our democracy and our jobs. read full story / add a comment

An article outlining the devastation and mass murder caused by oil companies in Nigeria.

Current investment in exploring for gas and oil in Nigeria is expected to reach 45 billion dollars this month, according to a 30 November report in the industry newsletter Sweetcrude. By coincidence, in a statement cosigned by numerous European film stars and other public figures issued the day before, Amnesty International France called for the major oil companies to be "compelled" to fund a massive proposal to clean up the damage they have already caused during the last half-century of oil drilling in the Niger River Delta. The initial cost of this plan drafted by the UN Environmental Programme would be a billion dollars. read full story / add a comment

Erris’ – and Ireland’s – Bocca della Verita, in the form of Shell’s Begging Bowl represented by a humdrum toilet bowl, returned to take its place outside Dáil Éireann on 6 December 2011 to mark Budget Day where the script was read by the new Minister for Hardship Michael Noonan, a script of course written by the Troika puppet masters. While the Begging Bowl captured lots of attention and support outside the gates it didn’t thankfully have to capture the buinneach* produced by current and recent government parties within the House. *buinneach,f(gs.-nní), Scour, diarrhoea.ÓDónaill.FoclóirGaeilge-Béarla. Shell to Sea has revealed that RTÉ is being compelled to broadcast an apology ahead of Wednesday's Six-One and Nine O’Clock TV news programmes, as a result of RTÉ's biased coverage of Shell's attempt to build an experimental gas pipeline and refinery in Erris. In this specific case, RTÉ chose to ignore the facts as explained to them by Shell to Sea around technical issues concerning the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) investigation into the conversation Garda had about threatening to rape two women Shell to Sea campaigners they had arrested in April this year. RTÉ instead reported as fact the false suggestions of Justice Minister Alan Shatter, that part of the recording of the arrest had been deleted read full story / add a comment
