The HAI hosts an open meeting for Humanists on the first Sunday of every month in Dublin. A recently published study of long term health problems in the population of the town of Fallujah in Iraq, which underwent heavy bombardment by US forces in 2004, reveal uncanny similarities with the horrors experienced in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the years following the atom bombings. However, in Fallujah, the current rates of occurance for cancers, birth defects and other abnormalities are higher than those experienced in the two Japanese cities in the wake of the A-bombs. read full story / add a comment

Mona Alami writes on how The Maryam is waiting to sail to Occupied Gaza. This all female group comprises 50 aid workers including US Nuns. Full story at link. The Maryam, an all-female Lebanese aid ship, currently docked in the northern Lebanese port of Tripoli, is getting ready to set sail for Gaza in the next few days. The ship, which aims to break Israel's siege on the Palestinian territory, will carry about fifty aid workers, including some US nuns keen to deliver aid to the long-suffering women and children of Gaza. read full story / add a comment

Gormley's mad proposals need to be halted. Its amazing how mad Minister John Gormley really is. He says that local councils can save 500 million euros in new reforms proposed that will affect vehicle owners.Its going to get so complicated and costly to own a vehicle in this state that most people will probably give up the dream of owning a car and content themselves with the fact that they will have to walk, or cycle depending on the distance. read full story / add a comment
