TO SHOOT AN ELEPHANT The “To shoot an elephant” team calls for a Global Screening-Global Screaming Day for Gaza on January 18^th , 2010 The 18^th of January 2010 is the first anniversary of the end to the bombing by Israel of the Gaza Strip; an attack which began on the 27^th of December 2008, and lasted until the 18^th of January 2009, and in which 1,412 Palestinians lost their lives. The documentary /To shoot an elephant/ is an eye witness account from within the Gaza Strip of what occurred during those days. This direct and privileged narration becomes a tool with which we can confront the Israeli propaganda about what really happened there and the silence of the international community. read full story / add a comment

Every Saturday afternoon, Israeli colonists some tooled up with M-16's venture forth from their fortified "settlements" to swagger through the souk in Hebron's Old City for a so called "heritage tour", heavily guarded by Israeli Occupation Forces, some as snipers on the roof tops, they strut through the narrow market spitting at, abusing and threatening all who meet their displeasure which in their virulently paranoid view of things, means just about everyone on this planet and such was the case last Saturday where one souk trader; Nawal, was spat at and threatened. read full story / add a comment

Michael Feeney is becoming an M-MBE for organising a war park that is called, not surprisingly, a ‘peace’ park. It celebrates soldiers who helped put down India’s first fight for independence, and who fought and died in the British and US armies. It is a celebration of those who killed people struggling for their freedom against imperialism and colonialism. The only qualification the killers meet is having been born in Ireland. Feeney's Member of the British Empire (MBE) medal also states, 'For God and the Empire.' read full story / add a comment

The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) has learned that all international members, including the Irish participants, of the Viva Palestina aid convoy safely left Gaza this afternoon and are in Egypt. Reports are just coming in that all convoy members have been escorted to the airport in Cairo and are facing de facto deportation and black-listing. There were fears for their safety last night after reports emerged from Gaza that Israeli air-strikes had struck up to seven locations in the Gaza Strip. read full story / add a comment

Chris Strafford writes on how the Iranian people face a double danger: the possibility of a Bloodbath being launched by the Theocracy and threats of War and Sanctions from US Imperialism. Full article at link. Further sanctions are being put in place, and Obama is holding back Israel for the time being, but has been promising “decisive action” if Iran does not halt all uranium enrichment. One Israeli diplomat was quoted in The Guardian as saying, “Obama has convinced us that it’s worth trying the sanctions, at least for a few months” (January 3). The imperialists seem to be moving towards military aggression this year - Washington has now dismissed the validity of the intelligence estimate which concluded that Iran was no longer trying to acquire nuclear weapons. read full story / add a comment |
