Dear Ambassador

Further to my telephone call to your office this morning I wish to reiterate some of the points which I made in the conversation with your secretary, and to elaborate on them a little further

1 I am sick to the teeth of the lies you are telling on RTE and in the Irish media about what is happening in Gaza. Israel has killed over 400 people there on the pretext that a cease-fire had been broken unilaterally by Hamas.

You know this is not true.

2 You said that Israel is trying to avoid civilian casualties but that Hamas place their civilians as shields for Hamas soldiers. You know that this is not true. Gaza is smaller in area than our smallest County, Louth, and is over-populated with 1.4 million people before your country reduced the population with murder from the sky.

3 Your Army invaded Gaza prior to en election and in the interregnum between the Presidencies of George W Bush and Barack Obama.

The Association of Hunt Saboteurs (AOHS) today witnessed the chased stag at 1pm distressed and disorientated on a road whilst trying to evade the hounds. Regulations set by the Dept of the Environment state the stag must have a 2 kilometer or 30 minute head start.
Despite this at 1pm , an hour into the hunt ,the hounds were no more than two minutes behind the distressed animal in Rolestown Co Dublin. Roads were blocked by hunt cars necessitating u- turns of other vehicles and hounds were out of control and ‘rioting’ (hunt term).

As another year begins, peace and human rights activists in Ireland’s mid-West continue to oppose the role of Shannon airport in war and torture. The first events of the year will include a Peace Camp commemoration on Jan 6th, followed by the regular monthly vigil on Jan 11th. Monitoring of known torture/rendition planes and military flights will also continue in 2009 as part of the ongoing efforts to end Irish complicity in war and illegal trafficking of prisoners. read full story / add a comment
